04-05-2006, 12:25 AM robindeem Joined on 03-04-2006 Posts 180 busting right after the bubble. I have been playing alot of multi games and trying to improve my game. I seem to do well in multis to where I make it in the money, but once im in the money I bust out right away and not making much besides my money back. Any advice to get me past this? Blinds get so high I end up getting blinded out.    Report

I would start playing only quality hands AA,KK,QQ etc high odds in your favor go on www.fulltiltpoker.com read their poker lesson feature -Their Pros have some graet stuff to say and it will definately help your game. I started out playing for fun and the tourney started with about 10,000 people. Before I knew it I had around 400,000 in chips and I was the chip leader at my table. As the tournament was coming to a close, I took someone out of the tournament and the seat was replaced by the person who was currently in first place. I didn't notice at the time how many chips he had and I was dealt A Q offsuit and he put in a big bet and I called. The flop came Q x x and he bet again. I pushed all-in because I had top pair with an overcard and I thought he had nothing. And then he called. Thats when I realized that HE was the chip leader and I had all my chips in the pot. He had K J offsuit and I had the better hand and thought that I was definately going to double my chips. Then the guy ended up getting a lucky King on the river and my hand went unimproved so I lost the hand. Then, after all that, I realized that I came in 28th place and I only needed to come in 27th to at least place in the tournament. I guess the lesson from all of this is, pay attention when the tables are rearranged and know when your on the bubble and take less risks.    Report

The most common situation that leads to going out just after the bubble is having a small stack from playing conservatively just to cash. Because you're short-stacked, you have to make a move soon thereafter, which usually means shoving all-in to try to double up - possibly even to double and then double again. This is often done with mediocre hands like a weak A, KT, QJ, small pairs, etc., and when you lose, you're out. The antidote is to clear the bubble with more chips by playing more aggressively leading up to the bubble. Look for the players who are playing timidly to try to cash, and steal their blinds as often as possible. They're usually quite substantial at that stage, so a few steals can easily make the difference between being a small or middle stach when the bubble bursts. This does mean you will bust out on the bubble yourself more often, but when you don't, you'll have a better chance to finish high. And typically, the payout structures reward high finishes. Just take a look at a typical payout structure and compare how much you win by placing high vs. going out soon after the bubble. It's clear one high placing equals a lot of small cashes. That means it's profitable over the long run to cash fewer times but higher.    Report

Leading up to the bubble/final table most players will play a tight game. Therefore, if possible, you do the opposite. After making the final table, usually people loosen up. In this case you play tight, waiting for optimum hands. Most calls you then make will be to raise or go all in.    Report

This is a great oppurtunity to steal blinds by upping your bets and playing more aggressively. Youll find people folding a lot more often til the bubble "bursts!!"    Report

I would only do this with quality hands or most pocketpairs in this situation if im sitting at or below 10x BB    Report
