I heard somewhere that you should move up to a higher limit after winning three consecutive sessions at a certain limit. So if you were playing 1/2 limit today and win, then if you play tomorrow and win, then next time you play you win some more, then it is time to move up to a higher limit for higher profit potential. Same thing goes for if you lose three consecutive sessions except you should go down to a lower limit. Im not sure if this is really what is optimal but My personal advice to you is play at whatever limit is comfortable to you. If you are not comfortable to play at a higher limit yet then your bankroll is probably not big enough yet and should wait until you win some more at a lower limit first. So if you weren't comfortable at the 2/4 limit you should probably build up your bankroll more before you move up.

Streaks have nothing to do with the decision neither does money made. Whats your BB/hr or BB/100hands. If your consistant and WANT to win more then move up. 1/2 and 2/4 not much diff. in skill but the money is bigger and you need to be mentally prepared. Scope out the games and test the waters before hand. Short sessions at a time while still surviving at 1/2.

i had a similar situation to moving from 1/2 to 2/4 recently and I think if you consistantly beat the limit you are playing at and if the money seems to become more and more meaningless then you should move up. At 1/2 i was able to play solid poker and win consitantly but then i won a lot (i didn't have PokerTracker). Eventually i started to get bored from winning $10 here and there. I made a good avg per week, but it got boring and i wanted more action so I took a stab at 2/4, lost $40 in about 10 min, i played with scared money and was a bit unlucky. Now humbled i dropped back down

Back at 1/2 i quickly won the $40 back and the next day i went back and won $40 but still nervous and ran away happy when i got to $80. After that 1/2 didn't really satisfy my crave anymore and i could win if i kept focused but it just got to hard, so i took more and more stabs at 2/4 and eventually got comfortable there, started in May and play 90% 2/4 if a game is available

Okay, my point is when the profit per time played seems too small for you and you stop playing your
A-game then move up. Nerves will scare you first so make the move slow, but if your consistant at 1/2 you should be able to beat 2/4

What I usually do is just play at a level i am comfortable at, if your not comfortable moving up than I would suggest not doing it. THe way that most say to do it is too move up based on the size of your bankroll, I usually like to put in no more than 10% of my bankroll into a table, so if I move up a level I make sure that I am not crossing that. Basically I would move up only if you feel comfortable doing it, if you have any doubts than I would stick to what you were doing. If your gaining money, playing at a certain level than you should stick to that level, cause if its continually working why would you want to change anything. Anyways thats just my two cents.

I think if you are asking the question you are not ready. My reply may seem simplistic, but it is not. If you have the bankroll , the discipline, and a good knowledge of the game a 2/4 table should not conern you. What level would you play in a home game or live game. If I had the bankroll - meaning money I was willing to gamble and lose - I would play any stakes at a live table.

Skinroy,

Nice work on the limit tables! Bankroll management is not one of the most exciting topics in poker but it is critical if you don't want to go broke. In limit hold'em solid players have an earn rate of 1 big bet / hour at a full ring game. There are fluctuations in this but on average that is what it works out to be. Here's a strategy that has been very helpful to me.....play at tables where your bankroll is approximately 250x the big blind. When you get to where you have won 100 big bets then move up to the next level. If you lose those 100 big bets go back down. This strategy will help you keep from going broke and allows you to move up if you have a great run. Good luck and keep up the nice work!
