First things first, all-in is a great way to play aces, if you get any callers. Unfortunately, you cannot play all in with your aces unless you get those callers, so if you look at your hole cards, and you see two aces staring up at you - resist the temptation to push.
There are two ways that I will play aces. First, I will limp in. I don't do this often, and when I do, I understand the risks in limping aces. Therefore it is very important to get a read on a person who bets a flop. Because, and this is the key, if they are strong - I will fold my aces. You cannot limp aces if you cannot fold aces.
The second way to play aces is to make my standard raise. Early on in the tournament the 'standard raise' is around $120 - $150. Later, it is 3x or 4x the BB. Again, though - I can fold aces. If you cannot fold aces, then I suppose the way to play them is all-in to steal the blinds. If you make a c-bet with aces and some one comes over the top, all-in, chances are your aces are cracked. I laid down aces last night very early on against Jennifernl - the flop was QQx and she bet out hard. If I hadn't laid it down i was drawing to two cards. I had raised preflop to narrow the field and I got two callers. I had position on both of them. It was an ideal situation. But, the poker gods didn't favor me, and I laid them down.
In the end, we all get our aces cracked, so don't make the mistake of thinking that you won't. Lay them down when they are beat, and don't tilt off the table, and you will be playing very good poker.

but boy do I love those people that can't fold their aces when I know I have a better hand then they do. :) A lot of people can't fold high pocket pairs. AA, KK QQ..... They can be a curse just as much as they can be a blessing....

very true Heather. However Graven I NEVER will limp with aces, I just dont understand letting limpers getting a cheap flop when I have a monster hand. That is the joy of poker though we all have our own methods! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I think it depends on where and who you are playing.
Poker is not a card game played with people. Poker is a people game played with cards.

I think that you have no choice but to raise pre flop because with the raise, there will be people who fold who would have normally seen the flop. When these people fold, you limit the chance of someone calling with a sub par hand and getting lucky on the flop and beating your hand. It seems as though you should get as many people to call as possible but I think that raising will represent a strong hand and weed out the people who have the potential to get lucky increasing your odds at winning the pot. Also, the pot wont be any smaller because the people who call your raise will make up for the chips lost from the people who folded.
