Then you can bet, fairly confident that you're in the lead. I consider JJ down through at 99 to be middle pairs, and maybe even 88, though you're getting pretty small for my taste there. Preflop, if you're in late position with alot of callers in front, limp and play the flop. If you're first one in, in middle to late position, I think a raise is in order. They're not usually worth playing in very early position...I know it's hard to dump a pretty pair of Jacks, but my guess is that they'll cost you alot more playing them in EP than you'll ever make with them.    Report

I'm assuming you are talking about middle pocket pairs. 7s through 10s after the flop well...you probabl shouldn't be in the hand. But pp7 through pp10 is simple. LIMP! same with JJ. You raise with a hand you think you're going to win with, so you want to build up the pot. i.e. AA AK KK sometimes position raises with more marginal hands JJ QQ TT. But the thing is, there is no need to overbet these cards preflop. there are 4 plus overs...and a VERY good chance one of them will hit. This is why I don't get why peopl with pp2 go all in. They tink they have the best hand preflop, but they really only have bottom pair. They also have five cards to go! Unless you hit a set these cards arent' all that great. Theyr're good if you see a number flop, and you canpush on the flop to get some money, because the odds of htem hitting a pair by the end of the flop (iassumin you have them beat at this time) is prety low    Report

We obviously don't all play the same and so there was nothing wrong about asking how we play middle pairs. Assuming that you're talking about middle pocket pairs......I would limp in and try to triple up unless I'm really depleted in chips and very desperate for a hand I might go all in to double up, steal blinds or go home! Ok, if you are going to fold hands like 99, just because you lost with them 7 times in a row, then you are passing up on many +EV plays. You have to play the hands the way that maximizes your profits, and folding 99 preflop, regardless of the action, does not maximize your profits. Now, as far as doing what you 'feel' goes, I think you need to explain further. A lot of times, 'doing what you feel' is incredibly fishy, as in - chasing the flush without odds, just becuase you 'feel' it will come. If you are afraid of 99, don't fold it, limp it. But I play the hands based on the action at the table. If I can push people off their hands postflop, I will raise 99, and get a caller or two, and then make a move at the pot if I think I can take it. If I need 'the goods' to win a pot, I will limp it, and play it for set value. If there is a raise and reraise in front I will fold it. But a hand like 99 is too good to just fold because I lost with it before. BTW, I am not calling you 'fishy', I just don't know what you mean by doing what you feel. PASS THE SUGAH!!!!    Report
