Getting a player off their flush draw...

Help! I keep getting beat by river flushes when I have a great hand from the pocket or the flop. I have tried trapping my way to big pots but the flushes trap me. I see a potential flush draw after the flop and I raise BIG to take the pot right there with my JJJ but I get called down to the river and WHAM another river flush. What strategies do you guys use to get people to lay down flush draws? My attempts seem to fail more often than not.

This is one of the hardest things in online poker IMO, people just wont fold flush draws, so all u can do is not give them odds to call, so that when u dont get sucked out on u get lots of chips. Which will happen more often than not, but yes it can really hurt when u have a run of beats like that, but remember we always remember the beats and not when they call and miss and give us lots of chips.

Sometimes no matter what you do a player on a flush draw will call your bets until the end, it all depends on what they have invested (if anything) in the game. The only thing you can do is hope you bet high enough for them to fold.

Its true that trying to get someone off a flush draw is futile, why try? They dont know what odds are, why try that either? If you KNOW they have a flush draw then why push them off it? I never understood that. I bet small. Why would I make a large bet into someone who could call me and win? If Im confident that my opponent has a flush draw then why not make money instead of losing it? Bet small, on the flop to control the pot size. Bet small again on the turn, perhaps the same bet you made on the flop, this will make you appear to be on a draw also. Keep the lead and try and keep the pot small, if the suited card hits then gauge your opponents reaction and react accordingly. If you have appeared to be on a draw also then maybe a check to your opponent will get them to bet, otherwise they will just fold when you bet into them on the river. Another good thing about the check is that if your opponent has a higher set or some other sneaky hand that beats you, you cannot get raised for all your chips after betting into him/her on the river. By checking you appear weak and he wont want to bet so big as to scare you off so you will save chips by keeping his bet small on the river.
