Tourney Strategy didn't work

So, I tried to play more aggressive last nite. Someone told me the other nite to play more aggressive. It didn't work. I'll stick to my own strategy. If I can figure out what that is.
I had AK s . 7 pp left in 40 pp live tourn. payout 4 pp. 2500 chip bet. 3 callers preflop. I raise all in. I have all 3 pp covered in chip count. fold. fold. hesitant fold. call, fold, call.
88, AK clubs, against my AK spades.
pocket 8's win. knocks out the AK Clubs
my chip count is down and almost out.
pocket 8's should have folded. he didn't because hesitant fold was what he thought a hand with an ace, figured me and the other dude for an ace something. Figured he was in good shape. He was, but should have folded with a low pair.
I should have either folded or just called the 2500 preflop. I didn't figure anyone would call me with that big of a raise. That call probably put 88's in first place for the whole tourney. I would have probably been in the $$ if I didn't raise all in there. I would have lost either way if I didn't fold that hand. By just calling I would have only lost a few thousand chips instead of almost all of them.
